A few weeks ago I was perusing the desserts section of the frozen aisle in Tesco, when I stumbled across GOOD FELLAS new edition to their range. SWEET FELLAS "delicious dessert pizzas". Fantastic! I thought, these look like a fun and interesting way to have dessert- I couldn't let up the chance to try these tasty looking treats!

There are 2 flavours. "Chocolate Brownie" and "Apple Crumble". They are a frozen product so have a relatively long shelf-life, retail at €3.99 and take between 14-17 minutes to cook. Nutrition-wise, as you can imagine, they aren't good for you, but realistically, what dessert is?!

Each pizza has a standard pizza dough base with sweet toppings. The "Chocolate Brownie" has a chocolate sauce with chocolate brownie pieces and white/milk chocolate chunks. The "Apple Crumble" has apple sauce with apple chunks and a crumble topping.

When I opened the "Chocolate Brownie" I was instantly disappointed. The sauce, brownie pieces and chocolate chunks were all squashed over on one side. Although the pack says to spread them out before cooking, this is impossible as the pieces are frozen solid to the base.

Even more disappointing, the taste just did not live up to my expectations. The sauce was very sweet and did not taste particularly chocolatey, and even if the sauce had tasted good, there wasnt enough of it. The base was relatively chewy and didn't work with the sweetness of the toppings. The toppings would have been nice on their own, but didn't compliment the sauce and base of the pizza. The only positive I can give is that if the toppings were more evenly spread I think the overall look of the pizza would have been quite pleasing to the eye.

The distribution of "Apple Crumble" was much better: the toppings were very evenly spread and there was a good covering of crumble. Whilst cooking... the smell was delicious! Apple crumble was wafting through my flat which you just didnt get from the "Chocolate Brownie"; and exactly what you love and expect from a hot dessert.

On tasting the "Apple Crumble" I wasn't wowed by the flavours, but it was definitely a more enjoyable experience than the chocolate variety. The base complimented the apple sauce and crumble and reminded me of an apple strudle type texture. However, as apple crumbles go (even with the novelty of it being a pizza) it didnt win me over, as the flavours were a bit bland. The overall look of the pizza was also a bit plain and pale.

To look back at the overall concept, I think it is a great idea and definitely interesting enough to grab the shoppers attention. I just dont think GOOD FELLAS have pulled it off in the taste department. I would not be inclined to buy again. However, the idea is pretty cool and I have to admit, it has inspired me to have a go at creating my own version of the sweet pizza!

In conclusion, love the idea. Disappointed by the taste.
